Welcome to our new classroom website! I hope to use this to update you on first grade happenings, special events within the school, and lots more!
Last week was a busy week in first grade. We had school picture day and a guest speaker from the YMCA to discuss nutrition with us, ask your child what they learned about "tasting the rainbow!"
This week we are wrapping up Unit 1 of Reading Street: Animals Tame and Wild. Our story is Animal Park and it is a nonfiction text that shows a simple safari ride. We are continuing to work through Unit 2 of math and have been spending a lot of time making ten and learning the different combinations that equal 10 (they can always use practice at home!) Book bags will go home this week. Your child should be reading for AT LEAST 15-20 minutes nightly. If you notice the books are too hard/easy for your child, send me an email and I can make some adjustments. Many parents worry that their child seems to be memorizing the book after they have read it multiple ties throughout the week, believe it or not that is a good thing! It is actually building up fluency and as the books get harder they will no longer be able to do that, so please don't discourage it!!
Parent/Teacher Conference letters will be going home this week confirming your time with me. If you did not select a time, I picked a time that I had available. If that does not work for you, please let me know as soon as possible so we can find a time that works. Here's to a good week!
